The DonutHelper Movement

We are tired of being scammed on DonutSMP. And we do not think it has to be this way.

The problem

There is a kind of fear that follows you around DonutSMP every single session, and it never really goes away. It starts with small questions. Who is it safe to trade with today? Who is it safe to teleport to? You spend your week building something, you finally turn a profit, and then you have to decide — quickly, with incomplete information — whether the person on the other side of that trade is going to hand you what they promised.

Then the raids come. The ones that land when you are offline, when you are building something, when the hours you put in are sitting there waiting for somebody who was never going to play fair. And afterwards the same thing gets said every time: it could have been handled differently. Maybe. Probably not.

And that is the part nobody says out loud. Fear does not make anybody safer. It makes people stop playing. It makes you keep what you earn hidden inside your base instead of putting it to use, because putting it to use means trusting somebody, and trusting somebody is currently a risk you take alone with no backup.

The mission

This is where the DonutHelper Movement comes from. We are not here to bolt another mod onto a server that already has the same problems. We are here to take the reasons to be afraid away.

The Movement has one goal: everyone can earn money, and everyone can spend it safely. Not "some people can, as long as they are careful enough". Everyone.

That means a service where:

• You always know who you are dealing with. A reputation that cannot be bought, reset or hidden, and that you can see before you make a trade instead of afterwards.
• What is yours stays yours. Protection that does not depend on somebody else deciding not to raid you while you sleep.
• There is a safe place to spend. A market where the risk of losing what you earned is the risk of a bad deal, not the risk of a bad actor.
• There is a team that answers. When something goes wrong there is somebody on the other side of it, not a forum thread from three months ago.

Why a website and our own hosting

None of this works on a server we do not control. A safety system that somebody else can switch off, or ignore when it is inconvenient, is not a safety system. That is the reason the mod is being rebuilt on our own hosting rather than as another plugin on somebody else's server: we cannot hand this over and hope it stays.

Where this goes

Fear is not a feature of the game. It is a tax on playing, paid by the people who can least afford to pay it. The DonutHelper Movement is our attempt to take that tax off the table entirely, and to build something where the only thing left to watch out for is each other — properly, and on equal terms.
